Alpine insights and outlooks
A visit to Germany’s highest nature information centre at the top station of the Karwendelbahn is an exciting experience. Perched high above Mittenwald, the “Bergwelt Karwendel” looks like a gigantic telescope. Step inside and a changing exhibition programme leads you into the high mountains and other sensitive habitats. The media room shows nature films and other exhibitions. The vast panoramic window draws the eye to spectacular views of the wide Isartal river valley 1,300 metres below.
Look through the other end of the “telescope” to see the home of the rare rock ptarmigan. In winter it is all white and difficult to
trace in the snow.
Entry to the “Karwendel Mountain World” is free. For more information please visit www.bergwelt-karwendel.de
