Walking and climbing
The top station of the Karwendelbahn is the perfect starting point for tours of the Northern Karwendel mountain range. This is the place to come for a variety of walks ranging from leisurely strolls to challenging hikes, from one-hour ambles to multi-day tours. The family friendly panoramic tour, for instance, is a comfortable one hour‘s walk. But take note: sturdy footwear is a must!
More practised walkers might enjoy a three to four hour hike through the wilderness of the Dammkar region down to the valley, making their way through the ski tunnel and over scree slopes to the Dammkar mountain hut set in impressive surroundings. The Mittenwald via ferrata offers fantastic panoramic views for sure-footed climbers with a head for heights. The challenge can be completed in seven to nine hours (climbing gear essential!).
