Every year approx. 80.000 people experienced the wild high mountain region. The Karwendelbahn is one of the top service providers of tourism in the alpine region Karwendel, a holiday destination which lies in south Bavaria, right at the boarder of Tyrol. Since the \u2018Day of the mountains\u2019 in 2011 visitors are taken up into the mountains by the new gondolas, the \u201cKarwendelchristals\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>From the top of the mountain station, 2244 m above sea level, you get to enjoy the view into the Isarvalley and the violin making place Mittenwald, you can also see the Zugspitz and the alpine foreland and smaller mountain lakes. Around the Karwendelbahn a lot of hiking and climbing routes are found, from leisurely to sporty. The Mittenwald via ferrata is a classic. Right at the mountain station the mountain restaurant can be found. It offers space for 80 guests on the inside and 200 on the outside on the sun terrace. You can have meetings, weddings or party\u2019s up here. Mittenwalds registry has a branch up here.<\/p>\n<p>In Winter skiers can enjoy seven kilometres of skiing delight through the legendary Dammkar, German\u2019s longest skiing route. Back in the 1930s thousands of mountain sports enthusiasts journeyed to Mittenwald and wrote ski history as the famous &#8220;Dammkar worm&#8221; and an enormous ice bar.<\/p>\n<p>The Karwendel mountain range is the biggest continuous natural protection area of the eastern alps. About 80 % lies on the Tyrol side, in the \u201cAlpenpark Karwendel\u201d. This location drives the team of the Karwendelbahn to contribute in the conservation of the sensitive nature of the high mountains. The \u201cBergwelt Karwendel\u201d, Germany\u2019s highest nature information centre right next to the mountain station is a symbol for that engagement since 2008. The nature information centre in the form of a gigantic telescope received the Sustainability Prize from the Alpine Convention in 2009. On the backside of the giant telescope you can watch the rare rock ptarmigan.
