Heute, Freitag, den 10.07.2026 ist die Karwendelbahn von 08:30 Uhr bis 18:00 Uhr geöffnet.
Heute 15 Uhr Berggottesdienst am Passamani-Bankerl, zehn Gehminuten von der Bergstation entfernt.
Vom 13. bis 17.07.2026 hat die Bahn wegen Zugseiltausch geschlossen.
Ab 18.07.2026 sind wir wieder ab 08:30 Uhr für Sie da.

Alpine insight and view with the giant telescope

A visit in Germany’s highest nature-information centre at the mountain station of the Karwendelbahn is exciting. It looks like a giant telescope and overlaps the cliff edge towards Mittenwald. Looking down 1.300 metre you get a breath taking view from the panorama window into the beautiful Isarvalley.

The Karwendel is the biggest splendid contiguous area of the Eastern Alps. Eagles, Marmots and chamoises live here, just like over 800 butterfly species.

Inside of the giant telescope you get a chance to explore always changing exhibitions, which take you into the high mountain region and other sensitive habitats. In the media room you get a chance to watch nature-movies about the Isar, a river which has its source on the other side of the valley on the Tirolean side.

On the backside of the giant telescope you can watch the rare rock ptarmigan, they love to relax in the “Karwendelpit”.
